Here in Michigan… They are advertising poll worker jobs to low income and disabled folks in my county. Now I know why! I've never seen those job posting before! I applied and now questioning it!

Why do we continue to tolerate the early version of a terrorist group inside the United States, acting like it’s entitled to violence? This isn’t gonna go away, we can wait for it to get worse or we can deal with

I believe all political violence comes down to a central tenet:
"Everything will be better once we get rid of the right people."

As long as someone holds this belief, it doesn't matter where they fall on the political spectrum. Without course correction, all roads lead to intentionally inflicting pain and suffering on others.

You get issues like 'political violence' when the police don't enforce the laws vs their preferred clique, which is right wing assholes at this point. Their aren't a bunch of left wingers assaulting spouses of republicans with hammers for example. I won't forget watching the capital police in DC holding one another back, carefully doing nothing significant to impede the rioters that sacked your most sacred institutions. Here in Canada we had long, obnoxious, and obviously illegal 'protests' and the police literally did nothing for weeks, the same organizations that have no hesitations when it comes to Natives doing actual legal protests, lethal force is pretty much expected in those situations. Those protests not only embarrassed our country by making us look like a bunch of brain damaged hicks, they cost billions of dollars. BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. The police did literally nothing (many police were openly supportive of the 'protests'), and now corrupt judges are trying to pretend that open harassment of random citizens is a valid and protected form of protest, and that you can endanger locals freely if you're right wing enough. This country is rapidly turning into a shithole because it's legal system protects the wrong people, and we still have jackasses campaigning for 'better treatment' for ex-cons… Oh, you have no empathy and everyone knows it because you committed a horrible crime, and now you can't find a job? I honestly don't give the least of a fuck. The system does absolutely nothing for victims, and instead enables the worst among us to do whatever they want. Of course if their is any kind of 'crackdown', it won't target the actual problem individuals, it'll target minorities, for some reason we never crackdown on rich assholes breaking the law with abandon. The problem here is that our society has been actively selecting for assholes for thousands of years, and putting the more awful among us in charge, you can trace just about every systemic problem to this. This is how capitalism works, you reward the people with the least scruples and punish those who refuse to exploit, so it's not even like this wasn't an intentional thing.

On the plus side, at least we look like we'll die out pretty soon as a species due to our staggering hubris/stupidity of our leaders, maybe choosing people who despise us to be in charge was secretly a bad idea??

Pelosi didn’t recently publicly state she wanted a round of investigations for rowdy right wingers. She wants to repress left wingers and other anti war/anti g3noc1de protesters. I won’t lose sleep over dem and rep ghouls feeling insecure when they’re the ones making it worse by using said insecurity as an excuse to further suppress the left while generally ignoring right wing extremism

Republicans have been lying to their voters for years, leaving their base vulnerable to conmen. Remember the “throw granny off the cliff” lie? Or the “death panels” lie? Republicans told so many outrageous lies that they actually convinced their voters to vote against their own best interests, and now they can’t control the chaos.

Good video. Please take a Sharpie and put a dot on the lower right side of your glasses…..I can’t help but see your face pouring out of that empty space. ‘Slightly irregular’ but only obsessive compulsive types will notice. I started watching a Jon to Jon conversation yesterday and bespectacled Jon literally adjusted his glasses more than thirty times in the first ten minutes….had to turn off the video and just listen to the audio. It sucks noticing things…

Its a question I've been asking for a long time; why is the far right so much angrier than the left. I'm a socialist tree hugger and they just frighten me. I've never heard of a left wing militia in the US. Elsewhere sure. But not here.

Great analysis of the problem here – but I don’t like how all of the solutions presented at the end had something to do with passing laws or having politicians exercise good leadership. Those sort of solutions seem like long shots these days.

Is there anything people can do about this that doesn’t involve unreliable folks like cops or politicians?

Welcome back Leeja, I was beginning to think I had been abandoned. .
As I've said before, Trump isn't the root cause but rather the latest carbuncle on the butt of America.
At the MOST fundamental level is the misinterpreted 1st and 2nd Amendments.
If I remember correctly, I was taught that in Constitutional speak all Federal powers HAD to be explicitly elucidated. i.e. Freedom of speech DOES NOT permit the RIGHT to LIE (in public, corporate, politics).
In any rational sense, the Freedom of the press 'must not be removed' is to ensure the public is well-informed in order to make THEIR best decisions. It DOES NOT mean "…if it serves their commercial interests FIRST" i.e. not publishing what their advertising clients don't want. Nor does it sanction manipulating the truth by sensationalizing or playing down the uncomfortable truth. (i.e. in other real Democracies, such "paid opinion" is clearly stated as a heading.)
I'm damned (I am anyway😐) if I can see any other way an undereducated average person can get reliable information without it.
As an aside, Your loss is Australia's grateful gain i.e. Murdoch had to leave there to spew his anti-social, malevolent, exploitative Bile (FOX [not]News). Note too he still has a profitable capitalistic focused (conservative [sic])perspective media empire there, but it abides by their proportionally enforceable guide rails on public speech. This means Trump wouldn't get the blow-by-blow coverage, i.e. last night in a speech attacked E Jean Carol again and the judge leaving himself open to other charges…. meanwhile the Cowboys (a rugby team) beat south Sydney 21-18 (Que the 3minute replay).
Note too their political season is between 3–6 weeks voting on Saturdays and universal like you are saying. If you are 18 not IN JAIL or declared incompetent you vote. Voting is mandatory but submitting a valid vote is optional …94 +% valid votes is common. Oh, yes, the ballots are multi party and preferentially numbered by the voter…. i.e. The winner is the most PREFERRED candidate. (greater ownership/ trust of the result by the voters, way less manipulation.).
Equal extended air time for the parties on TV to air their platform (about 30 minutes) each on different nights.
There is a clear separation between the branches of government. i.e. political parties, the legislative branch, the legislatively bound, Apolitical, independent, professional PUBLIC SERVICE ENTITIES (no elected or political appointees in sight). These include Elections Police, prosecution, Justice, education and health etc. Even the Constitutional court's Justices are chosen from the best judges from other jurisdictions, vetted, on skill, competence, knowledge and impartiality in their case history. They then form a panel
from which the government chooses. No external influence.
What they don't have is mass shootings, limited involvement in politics by corporations and churches etc. LGBTIA+ rights abortions on demand, universal health care, social security. Yet they have the same demographics in similar Proportions.
But as you said, America is a republic with some democratic "decorations", my word.
SCOTUS, a captive of 'mob rule' politics. i.e. Abortion, LGBTQAI+, and Eligibility to stand for POTUS are a constitutional issues in a democracy. Ergo, SCOTUS has confused constitution with politics.
Again, in Constitutional speak, constitutional issues take preference over everything else. I.e. their questions to be answered were. Do these affect people rights, see "the freedom of happiness" and does banning them deprive breach any stated principle in the Declaration of independence (as a statement of principles reason d'etre) or Constitution, clearly they do.
Does status quo deny existential rights of anyone? Answer, is NO …. Case for change denied.
Gun RIGHTS are specifically limited to militias… Period, and therefore a Federal Jurisdiction.
These are the views from the 6 democracies I have lived in for years at a time.
As of the 26/1/24 our family stopped officially being American citizens Largely because of the anti civility rising its head AGAIN. America hasn't resolved the angst of the 1860s civil war and won't do so until they change the system.

Conservatives dont want people to vote. The only way this passes is if dems win all the branches and they feel like it. You know like when they codified Roe.
