I honestly ask the question: how can we, collectively as Americans, empower women in abusive situations the opportunity to exit these situation? Would the availability for firearms training and defensive gun use training aid in the courage for some to exit?
To me the data is those of domestic violence in the past. Women nowadays, like those testifying are of today's women to refuse, not like Ms. Glenn to remain a victim of their abuser. I love when one lady said, she leaped and got the gun off the bed, but the gun went click! She is the prime example of women no longer wanting to become casualties or victim of domestic violence. Kudos to every woman that shared their truths! DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT OK! Protection orders doesn't keep women safe!! Police don't keep women safe!!
All due respect Ms Glenn, but women can't choose to "not be in the presence of a firearm" because criminals and abusers exploit exactly that as a point of power over their victims.
42:20 – "I don't have to wait for someone else" and "I am my own protector" THIS is a confident, capable, and empowered woman. Outstanding Ms Alcazar!
51:04 – "I realized I could protect myself". Kudos Ms Watral!
55:56 – I love how pro-2a women like Ms Solomon EDUCATE people to be empowered, whereas the anti-2a side pushes fear, uncertainty, doubt, and surrender.
To hear the comments about how homes with firearms is killing women is stupid. The laws they say they should have passed would have restricted firearm possession of women when they need one the most. Remember, when seconds count, cops are only minutes away.
How does Hank Johnson keep getting elected? My shoes have more brain cells than he does.
That opening statement of the idiot Sheila Jackson Lee and read by the man who fears island will tip over if we build military bases on them.. uses the phrase "common sense" as if either the writer or reader of that statement had an ounce of common sense. My rights are given by God Almighty and the constitution acknowledges those specific rights. These fools can rot in hell if they try to do anything that I fringes on my rights. Great job by the witnesses. Duck the politicians
Awesome!! Great job ladies.
Now the other side of the coin. Democrats better realize the 2A is absolute and we're not backing up anywhere our Constitutional rights are concerned.
Beth did an incredible job, the other two pro 2A witnesses did a good job as well. I thought the hearing went very well though I'm sure no truly liberal minds were swayed. But I have to say my blood began to boil when Mr. Johnson (GA) suggested that the video of the pregnant woman shooting that thug attacker had been doctored! How dare he suggest that! She is a brave rock star in my opinion defending herself, baby and companion like she did. His statement was demeaning and disrespectful to her. I watch security camera footage everyday of women defending themselves with firearms on Active Self Protection (ASP). It is not some made up myth, it's happening.
I wonder if Mr. Johnson is worried about the building sinking with so many people in it. Remeber this back in 2010; Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA) warned an Admiral during a congressional hearing that he was worried the island of Guam would "tip over and capsize" if more US Marines were stationed there. Why listen to him?
Seems Mr Nadler has all the stats now doesn't he. Most common people are NoT saying More Guns. They are saying you sir cannot tell the people they cannot own a gun to protect them selves. Put and keep criminals in jail . These domestic and dating partner scenarios are statistically tiny compared to all possible use cases of a gun …. seriously. Focus on the big picture. Please.
Ms. Glenn's argument is extremely weak. It's as if she thinks her husband's firearm is what made him abusive. I would like to look her in her eyes and ask her if she really believes her husband wouldn't or couldn't have bludgeoned her to death, stab her to death, or choke her to death? She married a demon and wants to blame the firearm for her torment and not her husband.
Mr. Johnson making crazy accusations saying the events shown was a doctored video and saying things like women are going to be forced at gun point to have an abortion; he is completely zoned out to his right in left field
Ms. Glenn, your statement of being protected against the very thing that will cause you harm… i believe you misspoke because the firearm will not harm you if it was not for the domestic abuser.
Ms. Jackson Lee walks in Mr. Johnson's suit. She grandstands her talking points, but doesn't want to hear the thoughtful answers of the witnesses. She is as closed to any thoughtful discussion as a rock.
Mr. Johnson from Ga. talks about the "opposition" grandstanding, but then goes on to badger the three of the witnesses with "gotcha" question about the Rhahimi case before the Supreme Court asking the for a Yes/No answer. He knows well it's like asking him to answer Yes/No to "Have you stopped beating your wife … yet?" ~~ yes or no only, sir!
What a hypocrite! He refuses to let them answer with a thoughtful response because he knows it would undermine his entire rant. Further, he conflates Restraining Orders with "convictions" … the Rhahimi case is largely about the fact that he was NOT convicted, but was under a restraining order that was not under a judicial decision, if i recall.
Ms. Glenn asks "how do you empower young women …. that domestic violence is not okay?" ~~
Why didn't she ask those women who have taken gun courses and created the mindset to protect themselves (like Ms. Watral) if they feel empowered that domestic violence is not okay. My bet is that they will no longer tolerate it. The process of learning proper gun responsibility, awareness, and empowerment also means they have learned how to recognize and avoid such abusive situations, or to remove themselves from them before the situation develops to the point of needing a gun to stop it. Gun ownership is not a having a tool that solves all problems and undoes all wrongs; it is an awareness of the responsibility to make the good choices and decisions, and create safe environments that avoid the conflicts that result in necessary gun actions. The "empowerment" they learn and become is not "the gun", it is the "lifestyle" that they create.
Ms. Glenn is a case in point, that her husband who already demonstrated abuse should have been jailed for the acts.
Mr. Nadler, which of these abusers, who have already chosen to violate their victim, do you think would be fearful of your gun laws. Do you think they would somehow think "oh, I can't shoot them because Nadler says I can't have a gun. shucks!" And even without a gun, the abuser would simply turn to some other weapon. Take the abuser off the street to reduce risk to women.
What is the current penalty for domestic abuse? If those perpetrators were brought to trial and convicted and jailed, then these victims who have typically been abused many times before would be safe. Perhaps it is time to have active convictions of the PERPETRATOR instead of making victims even more vulnerable.
At 24:21, Mr. Johnson states that domestic violence jumped in 2020-2021-2022. It's interesting that guns were ALREADY in the population (and had not yet spiked in 2020), so the MAJOR change was the suppression of people by Covid Actions that triggered the increase in stress. So perhaps the guilt should be laid at the feet of the oppressive actions by misdirected Congressional acts to keep people locked in their homes in fear.
Ms. Glenn, please see SCOTUS decision CASTLE ROCK V GONZALES. Police have no duty to protect.
I took a few tactical pistol training courses, taught by ex Seals. I have maybe 4-500 hours of training and range shooting but, all I really learned is, that isn't nearly enough to train someone to kill another effectively or, to maintain emotional control in a gunfight. Most well trained people freak when the real thing happens and discipline goes out the door and spray and pray takes over. That's why cops rarely hit anything in a gunfight with the first shots, even they miss a lot and they are the best trained, in theory. Anyone else notice, in the video the Senator showed, the car which just barely got out of the way when the shooting started? I am glad the pregnant gal got her man but had that sedan stayed where it was there well could have been inadvertent injury or death. That's the risk with lethal bee force equalizers. Maybe we should go back to swords; less likely to incur collateral damage…
I’m sorry those ladies that came looking for support had to tolerate such stupidity from the left
18:00 starts
Well done, ladies!
So proud to work alongside you in advocating for our 2A rights!
