When I was 17 years old, in Florida, I found myself unexpectedly pregnant. My ex who was my first boyfriend became very abusive emotionally and physically to me. I tried to leave him multiple times, but he threatened my life. The day he tried to hit me with brass knuckles, I decided to have an abortion. Over 16 years later, I’m so thankful and grateful I had the ability to choose the best decision for my HEALTH, safety, and well-being. I needed my parents approval, but I did try to cause an abortion before I told my parents. My first attempt to cause an UNSAFE abortion didn’t work, but I would NOT have stopped trying, even if it risked my life!!! The facts are, abortions happen NO MATTER if it’s legal or not, the only difference is abortions by healthcare providers are a SAFE option!! I’m a firm believer, as a healthcare provider myself now, that we need to allow HCP to decide what healthcare needs women and girls need BASED ON CREDIBLE RESEARCH, NOT POLITICIANS WHO ARE NOT DOCTORS!!!!!
