I agree. The government should not interfer with the free market unless absolutly neccessary.
To start with no one can see the future and their needs to be the ablity to evolve in unforseen ways.
Second is that congress deals with laws not automobiles therefore are not an expert on it off hand.
Finaly, too much room for abuse of power.

80 million people listen to AM radio. That's nearly 1/4 of the US population. It's 80/280.6 or 28.5% of 15+.

I seriously doubt 80 million people listen to FM radio anymore, let alone 80 million people listen to AM radio unless you count people that accidently switch the radio to AM.

Almost every new car for the past decade plus has included Bluetooth, USB and/or aux in, and/or Sat radio. Most people listen to either a streaming app, sat radio and only listen to FM occassionally.

Many radio stations, including AM are available via streaming.

The only reason most teens would listen to AM radio is for their high-school sports, which is likely to be streamed.

Farmers might catch AM radio for local farming news, but I'd bet that that is switching to streaming or listening while using farm equipment.

I'd really be surprised if more than a couple million teens through early 20's even know that AM exists anymore and most of those that do are farmers wonder why their parents don't just use a smart watch.

There is no way 80 million people listen to AM in there car at least once a year let alone 80 million people listen to AM radio in their car once a week or more.

For the tiny fraction of people that do listen to AM radio in their car it would be cheaper to buy a portable AM/FM radio that has a line out and connect that to the aux in port for the cars entertainment system.

Ted Cruz calls himself the most conservative member of congress while pushing for further regulation of free enterprise which would be a progressive stance whether you are left or right on this issue.

Ted Cruz is advocating for free speech by attempting to further regulate private enterprise, so really he is not making any kind of constitutional case. Besides saying it’s a matter of free speech is a stretch. Auto manufacturers aren’t censoring anyone and they were the ones that provided this medium of speech in vehicles in the first place. If the American people do not want vehicles that lack AM radio and if Americans really view it as an attack on their rights, then they simply will not purchase those vehicles and the manufacturers would likely be forced by the going ins of the free market to revert their decision. However, I don’t see enough people agreeing with such a gross misrepresentation of a constitutional right anyways. It’s strange that a constitutional traditionalist such as Ted Cruz would take liberties with the first amendment to try and make a point.

I think they both miss the true benefits of AM radio. AM during the day has over twice the range of FM (FM 30 to 40 miles, AM 100 Miles). At night, AM has over 4X the range at 200 miles. When it comes to signaling people in cases of emergency, AM will be much more effective.

I am sick of useless people with slick suits and power ties attempting to appear to be useful trying to dictate my life and interfere with the business of actual useful people in thjs country.

If people in positions of power wany to do something to help the American people the best thing they could do is sit down, shut up, quit virtue signaling and get out of our way!

If government was the solution to all of our problems we would have our Utopia. But we don't have our Utopia and the more government meddles in our business and our lives the further we get from anything that even resembles a Utopia.

Government is not the solution government is the problem!

Since there is SUCH enthusiasm – Bi-Partisan- to make it illegal to not have a.m. radio in a vehicle ? – is that it ? – it begs the question, :what kind of nonsense will "They" be putting out on a.m. radio in the near future ? "Dont forget to get your "vaxx passport up to date to cope with the next Spamdemic !". ?? et c.

In Australia we will, after this, be having the exact same debate and no doubt similar new laws added to the statute books. It's a little depressing though, that every little valued thing these days, in order to remain valued, needs yet another big law for it.

Teslas radio after 100 years has no match when it comes to public safty , public democratic use . I am not an American but America for me represents how things should be , and having a law banning me Radio or stripping it from my car because they cant do it otherwise is just too much , gives America evil face , instead of Freedom face , god knows America fell in moral arena these years a lot , people around the world are not seeing America as they like it . Weaponizing even money and AM radio . Thats bad . Doesn't look good . And how is my country to be led with such a moraly dicaded place . Americans you need to create a multipolar world , but one you still control , not trough the use of force , but trough use of freedom like it was after WW2 and before it . this modern thing is looking bad , the only country looking even worse with its policy is Israel for everyone can see what they are doing to poor people .
These are huge problems for America that i like , and would give in to any day but you have to work on it . Not try desperately to remain a world Hegemon because those days are gone . Times for diplomacy are ahead . And in diplomacy how you look is everything . No state will engage in diplomatic relations with a country of slaves . That cant even have AM radio in their car , so as to not hear the words of free speech .

They don't know what free speech is if it flies by them. Democracy, free speech and constitution is when it is for their benefits. We are living in dictator ship, censured time. If you say something that doesn't agree with them with their plan you are the enemy, antisemitic and all the nonsense behind it. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT AMERICA 🇺🇸

RAND PAUL. it's about the safety of Americans. For notifying people of emergencies. THATS what it's about. If you're so worried about the cost of mandates then don't mandate ELECTRIC VEHICLES. You make no sense. Mandates on businesses happens 24/7 it's not as big as you make it. You're talking in circles. WE WANT AM RADIO.

I agree with the benefits of AM radio .. Yet I also agree with Sen. Rand Paul … It's time for the Government to get out of the Economy and business world. … Oh I just remembered an historical fact . Germany 1930's .. The Nazi regime imposed radio manufacturers to build a small SINGLE FREQUENCY radio . Thus ensuring that Germans would receive only Nazi propaganda.
