I disagree on the notion that we can claim the Crime Bill resolved the crime rate issues. In criminology we have an extremely hard time connecting to cause to effect. In my opinion the decrease in crime can be attributed to a greater degree to the end of leaded gas than any legislation.
If more home fires resulted in more people buying fire extinguishers and smoke alarms, no one would say that is a danger to society
