Trump is trying to cherry pick the constitution to benefit him. Trump was quick to plead the 5th amendment over 400 times during a cross examination in his civil fraud trial and didn't dispute the authority of the constitution when it benefited him but when the constitution conflicts with his needs he disputes it's authority. The constitution is clear as to the 14th amendment and it says that Trump is ineligible to vie for the job of president based on his conduct regarding the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Any other interpretation of the meaning of the 14th amendment is bogus.

We need more "Democracy Protecting" laws, etc! Given all of these unforeseen things coming up in the Trump era, there needs to be a new years–long commission put into place to study all relevant laws and procedures as they currently are on the books, and then recommendations made for new laws and amendments to be created to better guard against another possible "Trump-like" candidate, or MAGA-like government cult, and to easily rid Congress and the military and all such offices and positions, of insurrectionists.
There needs to be an amendment to the 14, Sect. 3, to specifically say, "including the president!!! The Constitution is a living breathing document! How can it not be? Besides, it's been amended many times before, OBVIOUSLY!
